GRREAT Fundraising

Members and volunteers are always welcome to raise money to help GRREAT with our job of rescuing Golden Retrievers in need. A large portion of our funding comes from donations and fund-raising events, and events can be a fun way to help. Here are some common questions and answers about fund-raising events.

Q: Does GRREAT have any “regular” events?

A: GRREAT usually has three major events each year. Typically there is fund-raising picnic or similar activity in the spring, a volunteer-appreciation picnic in the fall, and the Howliday Party near the end of the year. The GRREAT Board of Directors organizes these events, and volunteers are always needed to help keep these events going smoothly! Watch the web site or the newsletter for announcements and information about these events.

Q: Can I organize a different fund-raising event?

A: Yes, additional fund-raisers are always appreciated. To be a “GRREAT-sanctioned event” (or simply a “GRREAT event”), you will need approval of the Board of Directors. This is to ensure that our insurance, liability, and financial guidelines are met. The Board will be interested in reviewing your plans, and possibly helping you to refine them to make your event a big success. For GRREAT events, all collected funds should be sent to GRREAT at our post office box, and GRREAT will reimburse you for those expenses that have been pre-approved by the Board.

Q: Can I have an event on my own without the Board?

A: Absolutely! Members and volunteers should always feel free to help GRREAT in any way they prefer. If you’d like to run an independent event, perhaps something like a dog walk or a rummage sale, we recommend that you use the phrase “to benefit GRREAT” rather than a “GRREAT event”. For an independent event, GRREAT will not provide reimbursement of expenses, but of course you’re free to withhold reasonable expenses from your gross proceeds before sending the net proceeds to GRREAT as a donation.

Q: How can GRREAT help to make my event a success?

A: GRREAT can advertise your event on our web site, and with enough prior notice, in our newsletter. We can also notify members in your area about the event through email, and use email to solicit volunteers to help. We can even provide mailing labels if you’re planning to mail invitations or information. GRREAT also has educational information available for download on our web site that you may wish to distribute at your event.

With your help, GRREAT can continue to rescue Golden Retrievers and find them their "forever homes".
