Available Dogs SAM (21-014)
SAM (21-014) is a handsome 3-year old reddish-golden boy with the sweetest personality. When he arrived, he was a little nervous and reserved, but he quickly got settled and became fast friends with his foster family. He loves to hang out with his foster parents, and he follows his foster mom around everywhere. Sam is extremely mild mannered and is perfectly content to just lay at your feet while you cook, work, or watch television. Sam is quite a bit overweight and gets tired easily, but he is loving his new diet and he is doing great at getting more exercise. He loves to wrestle and play with his foster sister, and his absolute favorite game is chasing the tennis ball in the backyard. His stamina continues to improve, and while he’ll probably always be a calm, chill boy, we think Sam will have more energy to do “dog” things after he loses some more weight. Sam had a previous traumatic incident on a walk, so he can be uncomfortable being led on leash, especially if he’s by himself. However, he is gradually getting more confident from walking with his foster sister and is perfectly polite on walks. Because of his history of leash aversion, his foster family believes a home with a fenced-in yard and another dog who is confident on leash would be best for Sam. Sam is very sweet and gentle with people and
is very patient with children of all ages. We do not know how he would do with cats but he doesn’t seem to have a high prey drive. He is fully house-trained and has behaved well when left alone for just a few hours at a time. We’re not sure how he would be left alone all day. He knows basic commands (he is most confident with “sit”), and he is very responsive to his humans when called. Still, some additional training would be great to help build Sam’s confidence and exercise his mind. Sam has a docked tail, but that doesn’t stop him from showing you how happy he is. His little tail wags fiercely when you come home or play ball, and he lets you know he’s extra excited by spinning around in circles. Sam is an absolute gem, and we can’t wait for this sweet, gentle boy to find his fur-ever home!
