COZMO (25-038) is a sweet, happy, 4 year old boy who is full of love, silliness and the ability to make friends in a heartbeat. He is 75 lbs of Velcro and loves to follow us around to see what we’re doing and get some pets. He is a love bug who enjoys sitting on the couch with his head in our laps for a good snuggle. While he is energetic when playing with a ball or toy, he is quick to settle in for a nap on his bed or the couch, and he is willing to sleep next to the desk while we work during the day. He knows sit and shake, responds to being told no, and is working on stay and taking treats from an open palm gently. He is still working on not jumping up and, with his big body, he could easily knock over those who aren’t prepared for it. Training may be recommended for him and his new family. He is not destructive in the house and gets along with his foster dog sibling (a small chihuahua). He loves to be brushed, walks well on a harness and leash, and really wants to be holding something soft in his mouth most of the time.

He has a lot of stuffed toys and a blanket that does the trick; he doesn’t damage them in any way, just holds onto them even when going in the backyard to do his business. He has been known to steal the kitchen towel when we’re not looking, but can be distracted to drop it with a treat. He is house trained and will go to the door to let us know he needs to go out. Cozmo was recently diagnosed with arthritis in his back legs but has responded very well to medication that he should continue to take in his new home. He goes up and down stairs without difficulty, takes at least ½ mile walks several times a day, and can jump on the couch and bed all by himself. He also has some allergies that are responding well to Apoquel. We are trying a chicken free diet to see if that helps with his itchiness, so a good diet in his new home is important.

Cozmo does not charge the front door when people come and go and is so happy when a stranger shows up—a new friend! He loves to vocalize with deep growls, a wagging tail and a relaxed body; it’s just his way of showing excitement and interest. He has said hi to several children on walks and loves the attention and is gentle with them, but he would prefer to live in an adult-only home, hopefully with someone who is home a lot during the day. He would do well with a large, fenced yard. He loves to be brushed and gets along well with other dogs, and if you want a loving companion this is your guy!
