Available Dogs MAVERICK (25-019)

MAVERICK (25-019) is an 8-month-old, healthy male with a deep and lush red coat that feels like a soft teddy bear. He weighs about 45 pounds now and should mature at around 70 pounds. He is playful, affectionate and smart. If you are sitting in a chair, he likes nothing better than to put his front paws around you in a long hug. He is now completely housebroken although we are still careful to make sure he is taken out to the fenced yard frequently during the day. He sleeps through the night without incident. Maverick is an active dog, and he is a problem solver. If there is something that he wants or something that he wants to do, he will figure out a way to get it done, and that’s not always a good thing. He is a stealthy, accomplished counter surfer, and he is fast. More than once our lunch has gone missing, and we have found it necessary to pull several things out of his mouth that could be a hazard to him. He only does it when there is a lapse in our attention. He tends to be mouthy at times, although he responds well when we say “too rough!” We have focused on socializing him, and he loves all humans and canines (cats are an unknown.) He rides well in the car without issue.

He loves to play with his foster sister to the point of being an annoyance to her. If there is another dog in his new family, he/she will need to be fun-loving and tolerant. We do not know how he would be around kids. Maverick is finishing an obedience class at a local dog club and is a fast learner. He is often used by the instructor as an example of the right way to do something. He has practiced polite leash walking and basic manners in addition to several commands. He needs frequent periods of outdoor play and generous amounts of attention to bring down his excess energy levels. We are looking for a very active family, especially one that is willing to take him to advanced training and fun activities where he can use his mind and expend his energy. He will rise to any challenge presented to him.
