TAYLOR (26-004) If Taylor could write a want ad, it might sound something like this: “Homebody canine looking for same in human companion. Lots of love to give.” Love bug Taylor is a sweet 5-year old Golden who enjoys cuddling and being near her humans. In general, she is low activity and more of a couch potato than your typical Golden. Her rotund figure (she weighed in at 87 lbs) may be due to a sedentary lifestyle. Time will tell, as Taylor has already begun a weight management journey necessary for a healthy future. Taylor is very smart, eager to learn and highly treat-motivated. She knows “sit” and likely other commands. She is housebroken and communicates when she needs to go out. Taylor stays off of the furniture, and sleeps on a dog bed. She travels well in a car. Taylor finds the world outside of the front door to be a scary place and is on alert when she sees or hears vehicles or people on or near the property. Usually she simply growls, but sometimes the situation warrants some barking, in her opinion.
She would be happiest in a home with a large buffer between the house and outside activity, such as a long driveway. Taylor is NOT a city dog and would not be happy in an environment with lots of outside noise and activity. She initially barks at strangers who enter the home but self-soothes after a few minutes. Her fear subsides even more quickly when the stranger shows her some love, as she is happy to make friends. Taylor does not know how to take walks on a leash, but may be able to learn over time with a family who is patient with her and builds her confidence. Currently, she becomes afraid after a few minutes and wants to return home. In view of her significant weight, she can pull hard and so leash walks should only be done with an adult. She comes to GRREAT from a family with kids, so she may do well in a similar environment. Although compatible with other dogs, Taylor would prefer to be the only fur baby in the household; definitely no cats. Taylor does not like to be left alone so she is looking for a family where someone is home most of the time. She is very chill during the day, only asking for some pets on occasion. In the evening, Taylor is eager for human interaction and play. Her favorite things to do include: watch TV; tear the felt off of a tennis ball; chew on bones; get pets and belly rubs.
