Gus 06-212

Gus 06-212

We honor our furry forever friends who have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge and who eagerly await us there.  Your tribute on our Forever Friends page will memorialize a beloved pet, and at the same time help rescued Golden Retrievers in need of medical care and new loving homes.  We are happy to post tributes to dogs, cats, and other critters. A minimum donation of $50 is requested. The inspiration for GRREAT’s Forever Friends is Gus (06-212), who sadly passed away at the age of five.  He came to GRREAT in November 2006 and was adopted by his forever family the following month.  Very suddenly, and tragically, Gus passed away  four months later.  He is fondly remembered as our first Forever Friend. To add your pet to our Forever Friends Tribute Page, please visit the submission form here.

Belle

Our grand-dog, Belle, crossed the Rainbow Bridge a few days after her 13th birthday on January 6th……She absolutely was one in a million. We thank GRREAT for their support and love of other Goldens. They truly are the best breed ever.

Marlowe 09-103

We lost our sweet Marlowe earlier this year. It was one of Robert’s and my happiest days when we heard we had been chosen to provide a forever home for this sweet boy, who at 10 months old was still recovering from double ACL surgery. He was in equal parts goofy and sweet, and we were privileged to share our lives with him for 11 wonderful years.          – Lucy Pearson

PJ

In loving memory of PJ, who was adopted 13 or 14 years ago by Amanda Witsil when she was a veterinary student. She went on to become a critical care specialist and helped to see PJ thru many health challenges that plague Golden Retrievers later in life.

PJ was almost 16 when he passed away, a testament to the excellent care and lifetime of love that he received.

Einstein 20-011

20-011 – 12/5/2021.   We hoped you’d be with us in your last forever home for a lot longer, but we’re grateful for all the time we spent with you — the longest, tallest Golden Boy we’ve ever known! We miss your deep voice, your quirks, your sweet companionship and, yes, even your fur all over the place! Love you, Einstein Benignstein.

Leo

In loving memory of Ann Heisenfelt and Alex Brandon’s beloved Leo.

We said goodbye to our special Leo on June 7, 2021. In his 13 years and 7 months, he brought much love, joy and happiness to so many. He was our “Ambassador of Good Will”. He is missed by Ann and Alex, Molly and Carl Eller and so many more friends.

Amos 14-066, Andy 14-067, and Cody

Andy went to the Rainbow Bridge peacefully on August 30. He was an amazing dog. He loved his back yard. He particularly loved rolling in the grass, leaves, or snow. He accepted each day joyfully until he couldn’t anymore. He simply loved life. We miss him dearly.

Our only happy thought is that he is together with Amos and Cody again.  That bridge had better be real!!!

Tess 09-247

I am forever grateful to GRREAT for bringing Tess into my life. Tess was a sweet and gentle soul who loved to go on long walks around the city, and then to curl up my my side once we were home. She loved road trips in the car, once she was sure we weren’t going to the vet. She loved to keep watch on all the comings and goings on the block, particularly tracking the pesky squirrels. She loved anyone who might give her a treat, and with her adorable face, she got a lot!

Merlin 09-041

Our beloved Merlin crossed the Rainbow Bridge 7/13/21. Originally named Sully for the airline pilot who guided his plane safely into the Hudson River. Like Sully, he saved us every day with his love, antics, and playful ways! He went from being an abused dog to being a sweet and gentle therapy dog. Meal times were enjoyable: he would grab a squeaky toy, make noise, and throw it in the air on his way to his bowl! We miss him tremendously; he was truly a dog that will live in our hearts forever.
