RUBY GRACE (26-011) is a loveable, energetic, and enthusiastic 11-month-old, 56lb golden girl. She is joyful and playful. Ruby is still a puppy and has all of her puppy energy. She has been very good with children as young as 8, and loves to be cuddled and loved on. After she warms up, she is curious and interacts well with other dogs and would happily be a follower in the pack. She is very submissive to unknown dogs and people when first meeting them, but is excited to engage with humans and dogs once she knows them. She would be happy to have canine siblings (cats are an unknown) or to be the lone canine in a family with humans to play and romp with. She is quite content to play alone – typically by chewing bones, bandying a ball, or unstuffing toys. Ruby tends to stay near her humans, waiting for a snuggle or a ball tobe thrown – unless there are stairs involved. Ruby appears to have been strongly trained not to go up or down indoor staircases. Outdoor stairs and short staircases (2-4 stairs) seem to be OK for her. Despite significant coaxing and training with her foster parents, she has only managed to make it up our indoor stairs once, but a little progress is still progress and can be built on. It will take a lot of time and patience. As a consequence, Ruby would be happiest in a home with few stairs or where some of her family lives primarily on the main level of the home. Ruby is extremely well crate trained, and will want to have a crate or safe space so that she can retreat when she needs some downtime or a nap. With her foster family, Ruby sleeps in her crate every night where she feels safe and understands it is time to snooze. However, she will likely grow past this need as she matures over time. She is housebroken although an accident can still occur when her humans miss her “need to go out” signals.

She knows a couple of basic commands (sit, stay), but is still working on her training fundamentals. Like all Golden puppies, she is jumpy and mouthy and is working hard to learn what is appropriate (e.g., toys) and not appropriate (e.g., hands) to grab with her mouth. Despite her mouthiness, she has not chewed any inappropriate objects other than hands and tissues. She is already working hard to learn about human hands with her foster family and making good progress. She walks very well on a leash, and will happily be a wonderful walking companion. She is always attending to her surroundings, demonstrated by a strong leash tug if a squirrel is sighted or barking if a package is being delivered. Ruby rides extremely well in cars, and is a very happy adventure companion. She definitely needs a fenced yard as she wants to get those squirrels. Ruby is looking for a family that will love her, play with her, and give her the attention and training that she desperately craves. She will reward that family with all of the love and energy that she can give (which is A LOT)!
